On this day after Flag Day, the San Diego Padres granted Chris Burke his freedom.
Free agency that is. The Padres released Burke who hit just .207/.270 in 89 abs this season. Burke had recently been optioned to AAA Portland to make room for Luis Rodriguez.
The Padres also traded catcher Colt Morton to the Seattle Mariners for a box of balls and OF Chris Snelling to the Pittsburgh Pirates for 3 rosin bags and a jar of pine tar.
LHP Cesar Ramos, SS Drew Cumberland, and SS Jeudy Valdez were all placed on the minor league DL this past week. The Padres officially have no true shortstops in the minor leagues in the US as of today.
