Should the Padres trade Adrian Gonzalez

Thursday July 30, 2009

Yes, I know this has been hashed over ad nauseum.

With tomorrow being the deadline for players without exposing them to the waiver process, I thought I would take one last stab at the question and the offers that have been reported for him.

Lets start with the offers I have read today.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Red Sox are reportedly offering pitchers Clay Buchholz, Junichi Tazawa and young slugger Lars Anderson as part a 5 for 1 trade.

For me this makes little sense for either team.
1st Tazawa signed with the Red Sox for less money because he wanted to ework win their program designed for Japanese pitchers. There is little chance the Red Sox would want to foment ill will with the Japanese players and teams over one trade.
2nd, the Padres have a good prospect ready to take over at 1B which is why they are considering trading Gonzalez in the first place. Why would they take Anderson? IT would just mean another prospect has to change positions or languish in the minors.

Well in reality that is the only trade offer I read today so I guess the answer is no.

Dont Look Now, but the Padres are on a Win Streak

Thursday July 30, 2009

After today's 7-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ballpark, the San Diego Padres have won 3 straight games.

Its the first winning streak of 3 games or more since the end of their 9 game winning streak that ended on May 25th.

Today Tim Stauffer went 7 strong innings allowing 7 hits, 2 walks and just 1 run for his first win since 2006.

With Stauffer pitching well in his 4 starts this season, Mat Latos showing that he may be a front line type pitcher and the addition of the promising 23 year old Sean Gallagher, the 2010 rotation is really shaping up to be both a young and a good one with Peavy and Young leading the way.
