The San Diego Padres guaranteed themselves their second straight series win on the road with a 6-5 come from behind win over the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Miller Park.
They can get their first road series sweep of the season, and their first sweep since May, with a win in tomorrow's 11:05 AM (PDT) game.
Kevin Correia went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, for his Padres leading 8th win of the season.
Kevin Kouzmanoff went 3 for 4 to pace the Padres and drove in what proved to be the winning run in the top of the 7th.
Heath Bell came in to pitch the 9th for his National League leading 29th save.
Reliever Todd Coffey took the loss for the slumping Brewers, their 4th loss in 5 games. With the loss the Brewers are now 3 games under .500 at 55-58 and 7.5 games back in both the NL Central and the Wild Card race.

Adrian Gonzalez went 6 for 6 and the Padres 3-4-5 hitters went 12 for 16 to lead a 22 hit attack to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 13-6 tonight at Miller Park.
It was a season high for hits and runs and Adrian entered the Padres record book by becoming one of only 4 to ever have a 6 hit game.
Of Padres starters, only David Eckstein did not have multiple hits. Will Venable continued his hot streak going 2 for 5 with a solo blast in the 2nd.
The newest Padre, Clayton Richard finally went 6 full innings to earn the win tonight.
His line: 6 IP, 6 hits, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K and 2 HR. His ERA is now 4.15, but an error by Gwynn was later changed and 2 runs added to his tally or his ERA would be lower.

The San Diego Padres won their fifth straight game tonight 4-2 over the Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park.
The newest Padre, Clayton Richard, threw 5 2/3 innings of 2 hit ball, Kevin Kouzmanoff went 2-3 and drove in his 58th RBI and Will Venable hit his 4th home run of the season.
And Krasovic says this is the least talented team in baseball?
I can't wait to see what this team can do when they stay healthy.
Believe it or not, the Padres now have a .500 record at home - 26-26.

Newest Padre carries No Hitter into the 5th

The newest Padres pitcher, Clayton Richard, carried a no hitter into the 5th inning against the Milwaukee Brewers before having it broken up by a 1 out single by Mike Cameron.
He also had a shutout through 5 2/3. Then with 2 out in the 6th, Fielder crushed a ball to RF and that was all for Richard. His line: 5 2/3 IP, 2 hits 3 BB, 5 k and 1 run.
All in all he did very well in his Padres debut.
Then the bullpen came in and it took one whole pitch to blow it.
I don't know if anyone noticed, but the left handed Richard threw as hard or harder than Peavy, hitting 94-96 consistently with his fastball. How long has been since a Padres lefty threw mid 90's ?

The Padres mounted one of the biggest comebacks of the year overcoming a 7-1 deficit to post their 2nd double digit run total and defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 11-7 at Petco Park tonight.
Kyle Blanks went 2 for 3 including his 5th home run of the season walked twice and scored 2 runs, Tony Gwynn went 3 for 5 and scored 3 runs, and Will Venable hit a 3 run shot to pace the Padres offensive attack.
Starting pitcher Chad Guadin got pounded in the 2nd inning, surrendering 6 hits 2 walks and all 7 runs in 1.2 innings pitched. Poor defense from Chase Headley and Tony Gwynn contributed to the run total as only 3 runs were earned. After loading the bases Gaudin on a leadoff walk and 2 singles. Gaudin got 2 outs on strike outs before a pair of singles drove in 3 runs. Gaudin then walked the next batter to reload the bases and a pair of errors by Headley and Gwynn on the next two plays allowed three more runs to score.
The Padres, now on a 4 game winning streak, have been one of the streakiest teams this season having had one of the longest winning streaks (10 games) and several 6 game losing streaks so far this year.
In unrelated Padres news - The Padres fired hitting coach Jim Lefebvre and replaced him with AAA manager Randy Ready. Ready is the 4th hitting coach in 4 seasons for the Padres.

Peavy and Gwynn Updates

With all the news today about trades and possible trades an update is in order.
1st, Jake Peavy exercised his no trade clause and will not be going to the Chicago White Sox at this point?
YAY!!!! I get to see Jake Peavy pitch in Petco at least one more time and to me, that is pretty special. He is one of the best pitchers I have ever had the privilege of watching play in a Padres uniform and I appreciate each and every opportunity I have to watch him work his magic.
Why did Peavy decline to accept the trade? The PC answer is that he wants to keep his family in San Diego and play in the NL. The real answer is probably more complicated than that and may include the fact that the White Sox are playing worse than the Padres and that the White Sox may or may not have been willing to guarantee Peavy's $22 million option year.
Will Peavy still be traded this season? The answer is probably. To whom? My guess would be, to the Chicago CUBS once the sale of the franchise to the Ricketts family is finalized. According to several sources, the team may finalize the sale as soon as this coming week.
In other trade news, Tony Gwynn Jr. WILL join the Padres and wear number 18. Tony light? pum dum pum.
Many media outlets reported that Gwynn, who has struggled to hit major league pitching in parts of 3 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, would join the Padres AAA farm club in Portland.
Bringing in the good fielding but light hitting Gwynn in exchange for the good fielding and power hitting Gerut appears to be a salary dump and a feeble attempt at good PR on the cheap. If the Padres had thought highly enough of Gwynn Jr to keep him in the major leagues, they could have had him for the price of a waiver claim in mid April when the Brewers designated him for assignment.
Gwynn will never be his father and likely will never be even as good as the 4th outfielder options the Padres have in Macias and Venable.
I would expect that when Cliff Floyd is ready to come off the DL, Gwynn will be sent down to AAA.
To recap, I am happy to say we will have at least one more chance to see Peavy pitch at Petco after he declined to waive his no trade clause and Tony Jr. will be in a Padres jersey tonight.

The San Diego Padres have negotiated their second trade of the day, acquiring Tony Gwynn Jr. from the Milwaukee Brewers organization for CF Jody Gerut according to Corey Brock of MLB.com.
Padres management has seemingly waived the white flag on a season that finds the team at 18-22 (3rd in the NL West) and are jettisoning salary.
Gerut had a breakout year last season after being called up in June, but has struggled a platoon player this season hitting just .221 with 4 home runs in 113 abs. Gerut, widely expected to be the Padres starting center fielder coming out of spring training has started just 21 games in CF this season while platooning with Scott Hairston.
Gwynn Jr, 26, has struggled in to hit at the major league level in parts of three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers and is expected to be assigned to AAA Portland.
