Padres win the game and 7th series in past 10

Saturday August 29th, 2009

The Padres came back from an early deficit to take the game 7-4 over the Florida Marlins at Landshark Stadium today.

The Padres have now won 5 series this month and improved their record to 14-13 for the month of August. It is also their 7th series win out of their past 10.

Wade LeBlanc, who was called up yesterday, went 6 innings and gave up 4 runs on 2 walks and also contributed a single of his own.

Will Venable hit his 9th home run of the season, a solo shot in the 4th, and scored 2 runs.

Kevin Kouzmanoff came through in the clutch again and drove in the tying run with a single in the 7th. It was his 75th rbi of the season.

Tony Gwynn drove in what proved to be the winning runs with a triple in the 8th.

Oscar Salazar, who was filling in for Adrian Gonzalez at 1B, went 3-4 and drove in a run.

The Padres are still looking for their first series sweep of the year on the road.

Blanks done for the year?

Saturday August 29, 2009

Kyle Blanks went on the 15 day disabled list today with a foot injury he re-aggravated while jogging around the bases after crushing his 10th home run of the season in yesterday's game.

Could we have seen the last of Blanks in 2009?

It is quite possible that the Padres will just rest him the rest of the season instead of risking aggravating the plantar fasciitis that Blanks is suffering from.

While Blanks will not be eligible for ROY honors in 2010 (45 days on the active roster or 130 abs is the limit), he will undoubtedly still be listed as a top prospect by Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus and other prospect ranking services.

With the emergence of Mat Latos, international free agent prospects and the 2008 draftees, the Padres may be looking at a Top 10 organizational ranking for prospects in 2010 after being ranking near last in 2009.

Adrian Gonzalez gets a day off

Saturday August 29, 2009

Adrian Gonzalez gets a well deserved day off against the Florida Marlins today at Land Shark Stadium.

This is only the 6th game Adrian has not started for the Padres this season. He has batted in all but one game.

Oscar Salazar takes his place at 1B.
