Padres ink Williams and Sampson, Tate in San Diego

Outstanding news on the draft for Padres fans.

According to Keith Law of ESPN, the Padres signed 2nd round pick Everett Williams to a $775,000 signing bonus.

Baseball America's Jim Callis reported earlier today that Padres 1st round pick Donavan Tate is in San Diego in preparation to sign his contract.

Andy Marks of the Ocala (FL) Star-Banner reported yesterday that 4th round pick Keyvius Sampson had signed a deal worth 2nd round money without specifying an amount. That means the deal is been bewtten $450k and $705k according to Marks. Sampson and the Padres reportedly agreed to terms last week, but it was officially accepted by Major League Baseball yesterday.

Padres 2009 Draft Picks signed to date

To date the Padres have done an extremely good job of getting their 2009 college draft picks signed, but none of their high school picks have yet to be inked.

On June 24th the Padres announced they had signed 9 players over the past week including:

MLB.com is reporting that the Padres have now signed 6 of their top 10 and 31 of 50 players drafted.

That still leaves 1, 2, 4 and 6 left to sign out of the top 10 and they are all HS players.

I only know of one player that has said they are definitely passing on signing, Rey Delphey, a RHP out of Braulio Alonso HS in Tampa who was taken in the 42nd round.
